Proposal for an international competition aimed at creating a new Conference Center, an iconic building capable of responding to contemporary needs for gathering, culture, and urban development. The architectural proposal is based on a clear principle: concentrating the built space to free up the city, creating a respectful balance between the building and its surroundings.
The exterior design of the Conference Center is articulated through a composition of pure, mainly cubic volumes that house the different uses of the program: conference rooms, exhibition spaces, and complementary areas.
These volumes are configured as bold yet balanced pieces, whose fragmented layout avoids the perception of a single monolithic block, creating a dynamic silhouette that respects the urban context. The complex is presented as a sober and contemporary architectural sculpture, capable of providing the city of Elche with a new visual landmark that is unique and recognizable, perfectly integrated into its surroundings.
The materiality of the building reinforces this dialogue between sobriety and local identity. Natural stones extracted from quarries in the Elche area are mainly used, such as cream ivory, bateig, and limestone, with a sandblasted finish, which provide a warm and timeless tone. These stones are arranged in vertical bands of different widths, creating a serene yet vibrant rhythm on the facades. The same stones are used as tiles, also with a sandblasted finish, for the paving of the new square.
